Whether you’re planning on selling your home or you’re simply wanting to turn your bathroom into your personal haven, it’s best to do your homework beforehand, as renovating your bathroom can be a big investment in time and money.

To help get you started, we’ve done of the legwork for you and found some of the latest international bathroom trends to get you inspired and raring to go.

1. Cool and calm. Turn your bathroom into a tranquil escape with cool blue hues paired with white for a clean, fresh feel. Take a look at Pantone’s blue and emerald green tones for colours that are right on trend.

2. Tile patterns. It seems coloured tiles have had their time in the sun and plain ones are making a comeback, but with a creative twist. Try laying your tiles in a pattern, such as the classic herringbone, for timeless appeal.

3. Down to earth. Wood finishes have been trending for a while now and they show no sign of going away, combine with other earthy materials like natural stone for contrast and texture.

4. Double up. We’re not talking two showerheads, but rather an oversized showerhead and a separate handheld shower, or even a spa shower set-up for a truly luxurious experience.

5. Spatial awareness. For a calm environment, get rid of clutter or at the very least hide it away by ensuring there is adequate storage for a practical, streamlined look.

6. Metallics. For ultimate luxe and glamour, you can’t beat bronze and copper hues. A major trend for the last couple of years, metal shows no sign of going away, but the bright, polished finishes are giving way to brushed matt or satin finishes.

7. White. White is the new black when it comes to bathrooms. The ultimate neutral, it looks fresh and contemporary on its own while providing the perfect backdrop for bold splashes of colour or texture.

8. In the pink. From dusty pink to bright cotton candy, pink works well as a neutral but also provides a bold pop of colour depending on the shade you go for. From the playful to the dramatic, use it on your walls or keep it simple with subtle accents.

9. Concrete chic. From concrete screeds to concrete-look tiles, concrete has “cemented” itself as a firm favourite for floors and walls. Warm up the finished look with natural textures such as wood and a few fluffy bath mats.

10. Go big. Large format tiles create a seamless effect, which help to create a sense of space. Plus, with few or no grout lines in between, they’re much easier to clean!

If any of these trends caught your eye, then it’s time to start coming up with your bathroom wish list and working on your budget. Enjoy!
